Hi, I noticed the reflections in the water were running almost straight down but the shadow from the tree on the right hand side is running horizontally?
Yes.. because shadows and reflections are two different things... shadows are from the dark part of which light couldn't reach. It is always the opposite of light. While reflections are the reflected image of an object. Like a mirror, you see your reflections in there. But the color and clarity of the reflection will always depends on the surface in which the light bounces.
do i need to apply gesso? or will it work without it aswell?
you can use white paint to prime the canvas
John are you self taught? I love your work.
It gives me a new hope.
